DIRECTIONS

From Los Angeles take Interstate 15 north to Las Vegas. Continue north on 15 to just past St. George, Utah where you'll turn east toward Hurricane, Utah on highway 9. Make sure you fuel up in Hurricane. Continue on highway 9 east to Zion National Park. About 51 miles on highway 9 then take the 89 north another 50 miles and turn right (east) on scenic highway 12. Stay on 12 all the way up to Boulder, Utah. Just amazing scenery and twisty canyon roads for miles makes owning a GSX-R750 totally worth it!

On the way back take highway 12 west to highway 143 west to Cedar Breaks National Monument. I ran into some snow here... it got quite chilly. Then onto highway 148 south, highway 14 west to Cedar City, and back onto Interstate 15 south to head on home to Los Angeles. Round trip 1400 miles in three days on my '94 GSX-R750.

THE RIDE

This was one of my most memorable rides mainly due to the scenic beauty of Bryce Canyon National Park and Zion National Park. Bryce Canyon is one of the most unusual attractions in an enormous area of the West renowned for its scenery. Southwest of Bryce Canyon is the smooth sandstone temples and towers of Zion National Park that soar precipitously 2,000 feet skyward. Hwy 9 in Zion is actually red in color.

Bryce Canyon is just one of many fascinating stops along Utah's 120 mile Scenic Byway 12. Lake Panguitch, located on Scenic Byway 143, is a large mountain lake popular for trout fishing and boating. Cedar Breaks National Monument is located off Scenic Byways 143 & 148 and offers a spectacular view of the "Circle of Painted Cliffs" a huge amphitheater of colorful eroded rocks. Nearby is Brian Head Peak at an elevation of 11,307 ft. providing a birds-eye view of the surrounding area. The roads were just awesome and it was really hard trying to stick to the speed limit!
