LISTSERVER ISSUES

Q.  How do I become a member of the Alumni List?

From the home page, follow the link to the Listserver Subscription Form, and fill it out completely.  On successful submission, you will AUTOMATICALLY be added to The List.  You will receive a brief e-mail confirming your membership.

Q.  Once I have become a member, how do I send a message to others in the list?

Send an e-mail message to "alumni@stmarysisc.org" and your message will be forwarded to every member in the list (including yourself).

Q.  Who are the other members on the list?

I'll let you know when I figure this out - I know there is a way, but I need to flip through the manual again - sorry for the inconvenience.

Q.  How do I unsubscribe myself from the list?

Send an e-mail message to "listserv@stmarysisc.org" with the following text in the main body of your message:

unsubscribe ALUMNI YourFirstName YourLastName

e.g.:  unsubscribe ALUMNI Aliasgar Dhoon

E-MAIL ISSUES

Q.  How do I sign-up for e-mail service @ stmarysisc.org?

Send an e-mail message to "alidhoon@stmarysisc.org" with your preferred userid (typically like "amehta" for Amit Mehta, "adhoon" for Aliasgar Dhoon) and a 6-8 character case-sensitive password (which you will probably NOT forget).  An account will be setup for you with your new e-mail address as "userid@stmarysisc.org" and you will receive a message confirming the addition.  If you prefer to have all e-mail sent to this address to be forwarded to another e-mail address, please specify this in your message, and include the adress you would like the mail forwarded to.  You will atomatically be setup with a subdirectory on the website as well.  Your new URL will be "http://www.stmarysisc.org/userid" which you can then upload your webpages to.  If you prefer NOT to have a subdirectory within the stmarysisc.org domain, please also mention this in your message.

Q.   How can I access my e-mail from my home / office / university?

To access you e-mail using a POP3 compliant clinet somftware (like Peasus Mail, Netscape, etc), configure your software so that the INCOMING as well as OUTGOING SMTP server is "stmarysisc.org" (without the " ").  Your userid and password should also be entered in the appropriate fields.

If you prefer to access your e-mail using a web browser, go to "http://www.stmarysisc.org:8383"   You will com to a login screen, and after logging, the system is self-explanatory.   Note that if you are using Microsoft's Internet Explorer (any version), you will HAVE TO type in the "http://" command for this url.  If you use Netscape (version 2.0 or higher), you may begin the url with "www.stmar....."

Q.  How do I sign-up to get myself some space to host my pages?

Q.  How do I upload / publish the webpages once I have them ready?

FTP to "ftp.stmarysisc.org" and use your userid and passwor.  You will automatically be taken to your personal directory.  No one else has permission to upload to your directory.  You will not be able to publish to the main St. Mary's (ISC) site either.  Only Paul Thomas, Pranav Mulani and Aliasgar Dhoon have privileges to this directory.  If you are using Microsoft's FrontPage (97 or 98) or Microsoft Publisher (97 or 98), you may also "publish" the site to "ftp.stmarysisc.org" with your individual userid and password.

Q.  What am I allowed to put up only website?  Are there any limitations?

There are n olimitations in terms of how much space you want to use for your webpages.  You may have tons of graphics, and millions of pages, if you wish.  You may put up a website for your own company - or the company you work for.   You may put up a site for your cousin's friend's father-in-law's neighbour, for all we care - but PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT PUT UP ANY NUDE / PORNOGRAPHIC MATERIAL ON THE SITE.   If you have any such materials - text or graphics, we will delete your directory, and suspend your privileges to the site and e-mail services.  Let's make the Mary's site one-of-a-kind, and let's all help each other in this effort.
